Last night Queen fans were treated to a 90-minute non-stop performance from The Queen Extravaganza. Having had a change of venue from the Fleece to the larger capacity O2 Academy due to demand for tickets this performance marked the end of the band’s UK tour.
It was clear from the very beginning that this was going to be a great show. The set list contained a good mix of the most successful Queen songs and lesser-known numbers for the most hardcore fans amongst us. Lead vocalist Marc Martel’s spectacular voice was perfectly complimented by Jennifer Espinoza and combined with the outstanding talents of the other band members the result was an amazing performance.
The official Queen tribute show, put together by Roger Taylor and Brian May, is a spectacular touring concert show designed to take the glorious music and live experience of legendary rock band Queen and bring it to generations of fans.
Taylor himself hand picked the band members (vocalists Marc Martel and Jennifer Espinoza; guitarist Brian Gresh; drummer Tyler Warren; bassist Francois-Olivier Doyon; and keyboardist and musical director Brandon Ethridge) from thousands of auditionees during a unique online talent search with video submissions generating more than 10 million views from around the globe.
Roger Taylor said: “The Queen Extravaganza is a brand new show specially designed to enable new fans, together with fans of old, to celebrate the music of Queen in a heart-stopping event. It’s very spectacular, and I think people will be truly shocked and amazed at the level of vocal and instrumental performance from these brilliant musicians! When Marc Martel sings it sounds as if Freddie has entered the room.”
Fans weren’t left disappointed as The Queen Extravaganza perfectly captured the spirit of Queen and put on a stunning show. The band are due to return to the UK in the spring of 2014 so for those of you who missed out we would highly recommend catching them when they return.
