Bristol Pride 2012 launched this weekend with events across this city with fantastic displays of colour and collaboration. Saturday morning started with an exciting Hula Hooping performance followed by a special performance by the Bristol Shakespeare Festival before Pride took over Cabot Circus as thousands of people watched a very special Flashmob.
The afternoon saw Pride bring a taste of carnival to the city with workshops and performances from Funk It Up Dance as children ranging from 8-11 performed street and hip hop dance, The Gypsy Sisters performed Rajistani Dance and a Pan African dance performance and workshop really got the crowd going and joining in.
Bristol Pride’s We Are: Proud festival is a weeklong celebration with fantastic events throughout the week to raise awareness as well as showcase the collaboration between many groups and organisations who are helping make this year’s Pride the largest Bristol has ever seen.
Local shops and businesses in the city showed their support with special events, discounts and offers and collecting donations with the special Pride rainbow ribbons.
We Are: Proud will be one of the largest Pride Events in the UK as over 20000 people from all over the UK are expected to attend this weekend’s free Pride festival. Celebrities have come out in force to show their support for Bristol Pride including Stephen Fry, Matt Lucas, Graham Norton and ‘Mammia Mia’ writer Catherine Johnson and the colourful Pride Parade will be the largest ever with many organisations taking part to show their support.
Over 50 acts, bands and performers including Lloyd Daniels, Booty Luv, S Club, Bright Light Bright Light take part and main stage is headlined by international soul sensation Martha Wash who will be performing her string of #1’s including hits with the Weather Girls, C+C Music Factory and Black Box.

Tuesday 10 – Were The World Mine - Teaming up with Bristol Shakespeare Festival and taking over Creative Common, the new and exciting Big Top in Temple Meads, Pride present a special pop up theatre performance followed by an award winning reworking of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Thursday 12 – Hedwig and The Angry Inch – The Cube Cinema houses ‘The Trans Issue’ expect special performance from internationally acclaimed Tom Marshman and others based around this iconic film.
This year’s Bristol Pride Parade promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Come join in on Saturday 14th and help carry the huge rainbow flag through Bristol as we once again stop traffic to declare We Are: Proud!
Gathering at Berkeley Square at 11AM we will depart and parade around the Triangle, along Park Row and down Park Street to College Green.
Kicking off with the Pride Parade, the biggest and most colourful parade in the South West, Pride Day has moved to College Green to offer a free, unfenced, highly visible Pride which still has capacity to cater for the expected 20,000 people that will attend Pride Day 2012.
Well over 40 acts are performing across 5 performance areas with 2 full stages of music all headlined by international superstar Martha Wash.
Pride takeover and bring Pride Night to life with multi-venue events including Bent, Queenshilling, The Hatchet and the O2 Academy.
Expect Carnival acts, zumba, Rajastani dancing, Can-can, fire dancing & more all to the beat of our outside DJs from Wonky, Motion, New City Sound and special 90s set from Another Night, club night of Bright Light X2 & David Oh!
You can also expect boy/girl bands, solo & tribute acts, giveaways and more pop madness than you can shake a stick at The Queenshilling Stage (sponsored by The Famous Company)
After parties take place across Bristol including OMG, Queenshilling, Old Market and the Official After Party at the O2 Academy as Pride & Horseplay take over for DRESSAGE:
Three diverse arenas of music and equine inspired performance from PUSH THE BUTTON (Pop/Chart) TRANARCHY (HipHop/Ghetto/Bounce) HORSEPLAY (Nudisco/IndieDance) and headline set from internationally acclaimed HORSE MEAT DISCO (Disco/Classics). Featuring live PA from electro pop royalty QUEEN OF HEARTS plus performance from Dark Island Dance, Circomedia, Harry Clayton Wright and custom visuals by Fat Butcher, this is a night you’ll never forget.
