Top surfers to battle it out at Boardmasters this week


As one of the biggest and best competitions on the UK surf calendar, excitement is rife for this years Boardmasters event. With a record number of entries received for the UK Pro Surf Tour categories, there is no doubt onlookers will witness fierce competition over the 5 day event on the legendary Fistral Beach waves.

This is not the first year the UK Pro Surf Tour has been part of the festival and past winners will be returning once again to protect their titles including 1999 winner Lee Bartlett returning as co-commentator.

The best of Brit’s will go up against International surf stars in 7 Surfing Divisions: Men’s Open - prize money £10,000, Women’s Open - prize money £2,500, Davidoff Cool Water Longboard Pro - prize money £3,000, Pro Junior - prize money £1,000, Grom Masters (Under 16 Open) - prize money £500, Air Show - prize money £500 and the Davidoff Cool WaterFlowrider Event - prize money £500.

In the Men’s Open, keep an eye our for UK Pro Surf Tour and Relentless Super Series Champ Jayce Robinson who will be battling it out against twice UK Pro Surf Tour champ Alan Stokes, past Boardmasters champ and twice UK Pro Surf Tourchamp Russell Winter, Slater Slayer and NZ champ Billy Stairmand and up and coming Australian Chris Friend.

In the women’s category favourites Croyde’s British Team member Peony Knight and Devonshire past UK Pro Surf Tourchamp Hannah Harding will be aiming for gold whilst top guns Anne-Cecile Le Tallec from France and Sarah Beardmorefrom Poole are also earmarked for podium worthy performances.

In the Davidoff Cool Water Longboard Pro, 7 times European Champ and Cornwall favourite Ben Skinner will battle it out on his local turf against past English Champion Adam Griffiths and Portuguese Luis Bento whilst ones to watch in the new Pro Junior rounds are UKPSA Pro Junior Champ Jobe Harriss Bude and British PJ Champ Luke Dillon.

Up and coming Cornish ripper Angus Scotney isn’t to be missed in the Grom Master comp alongside English Grom champ Joe Harding.

Finally, Boardmasters wouldn’t be complete without the Air Show with some of the best aerialists in Europe confirmed to take to the waves - Reubyn Ash, Josh Ash and Oli Adams to name a few.

With such an array of competitive categories, Boardmasters will be welcoming the cream of the world’s surfing community as well as embracing home grown talent more than ever before. Get down to the legendary Cornish coastline from 7th to the 11th August to be a part of this years event.
